Communion Service comes to Anthony Curton Primary School
School pupils in Norfolk learnt all about Communion when the service came to their school.
Reverend Barbara Burton, rector of Walpole St Peter Parish Church, attended Anthony Curton Primary School near Wisbech.
The school community gathered to listen to the Reverend as she told them all about what a Communion service involves.
Executive Deputy Headteacher, Jeremy Wilkinson, said: “Reverend Barbara Burton came into school for a Communion Service. It was a truly lovely occasion, with even the smallest children showing a great deal of respect by sitting quietly and listening intently as Rev Burton told the children about the white robe, called an Alb and the scarf-like Stole, which is worn to signify an official priestly duty. She was at school with Priest’s Server and Churchwarden, William Brooks, who helped during the service.
She explained the significance of the bread and wine, and then Years 5 and 6, and some members of staff came forward to receive Communion.
The students were able to ask questions and enjoyed learning all about the traditions of the service. The service takes place each term and gives the children an opportunity to experience one of central ceremonies of the Church of England.
