School raises hundreds for East Anglian Air Ambulance
Staff and pupils at a school in Cambridge have raised more than £300 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity.
Students at Babraham CofE Primary School, part of the Diocese of Ely Multi-Academy Trust, held a non-uniform day and used collection buckets in the playground to help raise the money following a medical emergency at the school earlier this year.
Staff and pupils were delighted to welcome a representative from the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) into school on March 15 to present the donation.
Headteacher Victoria Penty said she was proud of the school community raising £306.84. She added: “It’s important for our pupils to see how members of the community can work together and help each other.
“The pupils were very excited to raise money for EAAA and we would all like to say a big thank you for the work they do as well as thank those who donated.
“Looking after our community and the world is central to the life of Babraham School, and this event will inspire further fundraising for charity.”
Tammy Swiderski, Community Fundraiser from EAAA, spoke to the pupils about the work of the air ambulance and took part in a Q&A session.
She said: “We are so incredibly grateful to Babraham CofE Primary School for supporting and raising vital funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance.
“Every mission costs £3,750 and, as a charity, we rely almost entirely on public donations to operate our 24/7 life-saving service.
“I was delighted to be able to meet the students and staff at the school for their cheque presentation and answer their questions.”
The High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Jennifer Crompton, also attended and has been involved with the EAAA during her tenure.
She said: "I was delighted to visit Babraham CofE Primary School to congratulate them on their excellent fundraising for East Anglian Air Ambulance.
“The charity relies entirely on community support, so it was wonderful to see the children step up to help.
“We are so lucky in Cambridgeshire to have this amazing, life-saving resource - and very fortunate to have community-caring schools!"
