Hard work pays off for St Luke’s SATs results

July 29, 2022

Hardworking pupils at St Luke’s had cause for celebration after their SATs results were revealed.

Students in Year 6 took the national exams before the summer break and staff and children alike were delighted with the results.

The pupils received the school’s highest ever results of 72%, which headteacher Beccy Ireland says is 13% above the national average. She added: “We couldn’t be prouder of the recent SATs results for Year 6.

“The children worked extremely hard all year and we are delighted with what they have achieved. They all put so much effort into being ready to sits the tests and the amazing team of Year 6 teachers were dedicated to helping them achieve their very best. “

The school’s results are particularly pleasing, against a backdrop of a dip in the number of students reaching the expected standard for subjects this year.

Nationally, 59% of pupils met the expected standard in all three areas of reading, writing and maths this year.

The drop has been attributed to various factors, with the main impact being the huge disruption to learning due to the pandemic.

Additionally, despite schools having been open over the last academic year, attendance has continued to be impacted.

Ms Ireland said: “It’s particularly impressive to have seen our pupils do so well given the challenging circumstances they have faced in their education.

“We hope they are as proud of themselves as we are of them, and we wish them the very best for Year 7.”
